Since the beginning of time, humans have
beautified their surroundings and elevated their existence
with art. Currently, The Crystal Shop is proud to feature
the miniature artwork of Margaret Laurena Kemp. Ms. Kemp
is a gifted actress, writer and artist whose works have
been shown throughout Los Angeles. The pieces offered
here are those inspired by people Kemp encountered briefly
who struck or moved her. They are women in whom she sees
the beauty that others may not. Kemp is the sister of
Arnold J. Kemp, the internationally known freelance curator
and artist whose works are among the permanent collections
of the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Metropolitan Museum
of Art, and who recently won the Pollack Krassner Fellowship.
The latter Kemp says that his sister’s work is "…visually engaging
and mindful of pressing cultural and political concerns at the
same time that it delves into the hopeful, lovely and frightening
elements of the soul. This is work that humanly matters."
